It’s been a big week for Sandals: one new resort opening, one reopening and a third unveiling its overwater bungalows.

Sandals Royal Barbados welcomed its first guests on Dec. 20.

“Every new resort we develop stands on the shoulders of what came before. We keep getting better and better and for us, right now, Sandals Royal Barbados is a game-changer,” said Butch Stewart, chairman and founder of Sandals Resorts International.

The new resort complements the adjacent 280-room Sandals Barbados, which opened in January 2015.

MSC Cruises held its first christening in North America for the just-completed MSC Seaside, the vessel it hopes will crack open the doors to further growth for the largely European brand.

The 4,138-passenger ship will anchor MSC’s Caribbean itineraries with seven-day cruises starting Jan. 6.

Actor Robert De Niro’s Nobu Hotels chain is nearly doubling its portfolio in 2018.

The company already has seven hotels open. Next year, it plans on introducing five more.

The high-end chain was created in 2009 with De Niro, celebrity chef Nobu Matsuhisa, and Hollywood producer Meir Teper as co-owners. The first Nobu opened in 2013 as a boutique hotel inside Caesar’s Palace Las Vegas.

Hurricane Irma is still leaving businesses flat in the Florida Keys, three months after the storm hit the state. The Keys normally attract more than 3 million tourists a year, bringing in nearly $3 billion annually and accounting for more than half of the islands’ economy.

The busy tourist season in the Keys starts the day after Christmas, and there are plenty of things to do – fishing, diving or feeding the tarpon. But the challenge in areas like Islamorada is finding a place to stay. Many of the big resorts remain closed after being battered by Hurricane Irma, reports CBS News correspondent Omar Villafranca.

Sometimes it can be easy to forget Irma was ever here. But the giveaway at a waterfront restaurant is the empty chairs.
